Timing is one of the most important factors in finance.
You can have skill.
You can have courage.
But without timing, neither will matter.
In this season’s #DooTrader Charity Trading Cup, one name quietly surged up the leaderboard.
Yu Zaishek, a trader from South Korea, ranked second in Round 6 of the Wave Breaker Group, just behind Wei Tengfei.

While many focused on Wei’s 1500% return, fewer noticed something equally remarkable.
Yu delivered 756.45% in just six trading days.
Not a full month.
Six days.
That is what precision looks like.
To understand how he did it, D Prime invited Yu Zaishek for an exclusive interview.
#DooTrader Profile
Name: Yu Zaishek
Country: South Korea

Ranking: 2
Background: Former private equity professional in Seoul, now a full-time trader
Motto:
“Wait for the best opportunities as good as a gift from God.”

Exclusive Interview: The Power of Patience
Watching Before Acting
D Prime: A 7x return in just six days is extraordinary. How are you feeling?
Yu Zaishek: I feel good. The final round was intense. I can finally rest.
Here is the key detail.
He traded for only six days, yet he observed the market for the entire month.
Yu Zaishek: Most of the time, I was simply waiting.
This is where his philosophy becomes clear.
He is not constantly trading. He is constantly preparing.
The Livermore Principle
Yu referenced legendary trader Jesse Livermore.
After one of his bankruptcies, Livermore once said he would only trade when the opportunity felt like a gift from God. He waited patiently before entering and later made a historic comeback.
Yu follows the same principle.
He specializes in breakout trades. When conviction is strong, he does not hesitate. He scales aggressively.
A 7x return in six days requires large exposure.
But that exposure only comes after conviction is established.
Surviving a 98% Drawdown
Yu’s maximum drawdown during the competition reached 98%.
That is extreme.
D Prime: What happened?
Yu Zaishek: My initial positions were large, and I cut losses quickly when wrong. I also used a countertrend scaling method similar to grid trading, which naturally creates deep drawdowns.
Grid-style scaling in volatile markets can amplify both risk and reward.
He admitted that it was fortunate the drawdown stopped at 98 percent. Otherwise, the account could have been wiped out.
High returns often come with high volatility.
Adding to Losing Positions
Many trading mentors advise against adding to losing trades.
Yu generally agrees. However, his approach is more nuanced.
He trades breakouts. Breakouts often experience pullbacks before continuing higher.
He studies:
- Volume behavior
- Candle structure
- Speed of pullbacks
In one critical trade, the market broke out strongly and then pulled back with low volume and slow candles. That told him selling pressure was weak.
He added to his position.
Soon after, the price briefly broke below support and came within a few pips of his stop loss. Then buyers stepped in aggressively and pushed the price back above support.
He recognized the strength immediately and added again.
That trade became one of the defining moments of his month.
Mental Preparation for Collapse
D Prime: Was that the moment you almost blew up?
Yu Zaishek: Yes. I was mentally prepared for it.
Preparation does not remove fear. It prevents panic.
Most traders lose control when price approaches their stop loss. Yu stayed calm.
That calmness was built through experience and through accepting risk before entering the trade.
Preferred Markets
Yu primarily trades:
- Nasdaq
- Dow Jones
- S&P 500
- DAX
If indices consolidate, he rotates into:
- Bitcoin
- WTI crude oil
- Natural gas
- Gold
- GBPJPY
- USDJPY
He focuses on high volatility and clear breakout structures.
A Different Kind of Speed
If Wei Tengfei represents bold aggression and Randhawa Aruna represents disciplined control, Yu represents selective timing.
He is not constantly active.
He waits.
Like a cheetah in tall grass.
He does not chase every move.
He waits for the right one.
Although there is still a performance gap between him and Wei, Yu does not see it as discouragement. He sees it as a benchmark.
True masters recognize and respect one another.
Now the question remains.
When the Island Championship begins, will patience defeat aggression?
Or will bold conviction prevail?
We will soon find out.
